First day of my EOY holidays

I had a really long afternoon, but I am happy that I managed to strike alot of things off my to-do list.
Of the more important things I have done today is to apply for my PDL!

Finally, ever since passing my FTT since early this year,
I haven’t had the time to learn because I was off to HK in late June,
so I decided I might as well have applied only when I come back since it only lasts for 6 months.
Cannot wait for first driving lesson!

And I also went to the Canon Support Centre,
and the person told me that I would have to get my lenses changed,
and after all the different charges, it would cost around 193 bucks to get my camera fixed.

Question (constructive suggestions from anyone would be kindly appreciated!):

Originaly I was faced with three alternatives;
1. fix my cam for around 200bucks
2. get a new camera that uses the same battery as my current one (reason being I bought an extra batt last year for close to 100bucks, so it would be such a waste to use a cam that doesn’t operate with the same batteries right?)
3. buy a completely new canon camera with different batteries

Now, there is an added dilemma.
My canon camera model which is Canon IXUS 850 IS,
operates on the NB-5L battery.

The problem is, is it worth it to get my camera fixed?
I have received some advice from some I consulted,
and alot of them are asking me to change the camera.
The problem is that today the person advised me to get Canon IXUS 120 IS,
which has the same wide lenses as my old model.
BUTTTTTT, yesterday when I checked the Canon website,
only Canon IXUS 990 IS has exactly the same functions that I want,
and uses the same battery,
but only today did I realise (the person told me) that the lenses for that one is slightly narrower,
thus it means that unlike my old camera which can fit so many people into a photo,
this one might not be the same?

And of course, Canon IXUS 120 IS is thinner and also has 12.1 megapixels,
as compared to my previous IXUS 850 IS which has 7.1 megapixels.
Moreover, if I purchase directly from Canon,
I can have a rebate by trading in my old camera (probably will end up costing 300plus).
But the only problem holding me back from getting a new one is the batteries.

So should I just fix my old one (for 193), get one with similar batteries (Canon IXUS 990 IS, but it costs 599),
or get Canon IXUS 120 IS (which doesn’t use the same battery that costs 499)?

I hope I can get this problem solved soon,
because I don’t wanna go to BKK at the end of this month without a camera :S

Anyway, I am off to packing up my room.
I love me-time! <3
